Jacob Hyun is a San Francisco-based visual artist focusing on photographic expression. He was born and raised in Seoul, Korea, and is currently majoring in photography at the Academy of Art University in San Francisco and working on extensive conceptual projects both in the United States and throughout Asia.
He went to school in Honolulu, HI, at the age of eleven, and at that time initially became interested in photography. When he was seventeen years old, after passing the high school graduation exam, he intensively studied Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop as fundamental tools for post-production for contemporary art. At the age of eighteen, he took a summer class in "Drawing and Visual Arts" at NABA in Milan, Italy, and also attended the "National Geographic Photo Academy" in Seoul in 2014.
In the recent past, Jacob Hyun presented his first solo exhibition entitled "From Jeju to Arizona" at Yadahaus, Seoul, in 2017. His conceptual work often metaphorically explores socioeconomic situations by working in typological series to convey social messages to his viewers, and his work also questions the conventional sense of beauty in photography and other related visual arts.
